The opportunity to work with young people, to open their eyes to something new and different. There is nothing more rewarding than being part of and shaping a students learning journey.

I love being with children - even though we have our bad days I know that tomorrow is a new day and we will start fresh. The best feeling in the world is seeing your students learn something and seeing it click in their heads.

I became a teacher as I believe teaching is an even more important profession these days as the kids of this era lose touch of what is required in the real world. Teachers are trusted to groom students and prepare them with the ability to be life long learners. This is becoming even more difficult as students rebel against the learning approach. More emphasis is placed on Teachers to provide the missing link in kids' lives with increased rates of divorce. Students in some cases are looking for and needing a lot more than someone to teach them what is required for the future.

In my mind to be a teacher your heart really needs to be in it and you need to be devoted. I am constantly thinking of ways how to improve things and how to help my students. My friend who is also teaching says she doesn't love it and isn't sure it is the right profession for her. But for me, I've known since I was in high school that I wanted to be a teacher, plus there are a lot of teachers in my family

I've always known that I wanted to work with children in some way, because I wanted to pass knowledge onto children, and to build their confidence in learning, and when I thought about it, I felt that I had the ability to become a teacher. As I said, you just know if it's the right profession for you. If you feel happy about going into school everyday and teaching children and you come out feeling satisfied and good about what you have taught, then I think you are in the right job, and you should keep up what you are doing - it's obviously working.

I loved PE lessons and enjoyed sport when I was at school so decided being a PE teacher would be a great career.

I grew up in the country and was strongly influenced by a few of my teachers. I choose teaching as a career because it gives me a chance to directly affect the direction some students will take in life as my teachers did to me. Teaching is a job that provides a sense of purpose and importance to me.

Right from my first day of school I couldn't wait to go home and teach my three year old sister everything that I had learnt that day.  I would sit her down in front of our blackboard and repeat the day's lessons and get her to help me complete my homework. From the age of seven I had decided that I was passionate about teaching and learning and that when I "grew up" I wanted to be a teacher. In Year 12 my teachers actively discouraged me from entering the teaching profession and encouraged me to pursue a career in science or medicine. I followed my dreams and passions and have never regretted my decision to pursue a career in teaching.

I really think it chose me. It was always in the back of my mind that I should study education, and after completing other studies I eventually fell into the degree!
